The Mental Health in Multicultural Australia (MHiMA) project invites your participation at the “Mental Health in Multicultural Australia Symposium”. The symposium is an opportunity to meet with various government policymakers at national and state territory level from across Australia, transcultural and mental health services and consumers and carers in order to share best practice and explore future collaboration opportunities in relation to multicultural mental health and suicide prevention.
This Symposium will be held on Wednesday, 6th November 2013 at the Gold Coast Convention Centre and will precede the biannual FECCA 2013 conference being held on Thursday 7th & Friday 8th November 2013.
The ‘Mental Health in Multicultural Australia’ symposium is an opportunity to:
• Meet with stakeholders about what MHiMA has achieved against its stated actions in our 2012-2014 Strategic Plan – ‘Building Capacity & Supporting Inclusion’
• Share examples of work currently underway across Australia to improve cultural responsiveness.
• Showcase examples of where outcomes have been achieved that can be built upon in relation to mental health services engaging effectively with CALD consumers, carers, families and friends that require mental health support services.
• Build partnerships across Australia that are critical to embedding cultural responsiveness and sustained improved outcomes for CALD consumers, carers, families and friends that require mental health support services.
The program includes presentations by executive and staff team members of MHiMA, the MHiMA State &Territory Reference Group, members of the MHiMA Consumer and Carer Working Group and partner organisations across Australia that are working collectively to improve policy, service access and recovery outcomes for CALD consumers, carers, family and friends that require culturally responsive mental health services.
